Reunited: Does It Feel So Good?

The House of Why Posted on October 21, 2013 by EileenOctober 21, 2013

Why do we torture ourselves with class reunions? Ah, those wonderful days of high school.  The time in our lives that many of us wish we could erase unless we happened to be the popular girl or the sports jock.  If you were the nerd, the geek, the pimply one, the brain, or the loner (as I was), high school is an era that’s probably best left in the past.  After all, who wants to recall the pain of peer … Continue reading →

(Not) So Electrifying

The House of Why Posted on August 30, 2013 by EileenAugust 30, 2013

Why can’t we sometimes be less dependent on electricity? Last weekend a storm struck the Inland Northwest so hard that some areas, including mine, had their electric knocked out and were left in darkness.  It happened around 8:30 in the evening when most people were home relaxing and getting ready to start a new week. It wasn’t so bad being without electric at first.  I got out the candles so we could have some light.  Then it hit me–I had … Continue reading →

Owning Your John Hancock

The House of Why Posted on May 18, 2012 by EileenMay 18, 2012

Why is cursive handwriting falling by the wayside? Once upon a time, during the Middle Ages, books were expensive.  Like, crazy expensive.  That’s because monks copied manuscripts by hand, and in order for monks to copy manuscripts, they needed to have good penmanship.  After all, who wanted a book with sloppy handwriting that couldn’t be deciphered? Then along came the Gutenberg Press, which unemployed a lot of religious scribes, but made books easily publishable, cheaper, and more accessible.  However, people … Continue reading →

Bunny Envy

The House of Why Posted on April 7, 2012 by EileenApril 7, 2012 2

Why can’t I be like the Energizer Bunny? I admit before the whole world (well, my readership) that I am jealous of the Energizer Bunny.  It would probably make sense if I were envious of Bunnies from the ’60s and ’70s–those ladies were sexy and had great bodies. It would even be understandable if I were jealous of real bunnies for living easy lives in exchange for simply being fuzzy and cute.  Heck, there’s even reason to be jealous of … Continue reading →
