Flood of Blood

The House of Why Posted on June 14, 2012 by EileenJune 14, 2012 1

Why all the fuss over vampires? It seems like the popularity of vampires goes up and down with the times, and lately it’s on the upswing again.  You can blame Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight books and the movies based on them starring young heartthrob Robert Pattinson.  Thanks to the Twilight series, TV shows such as True Blood and The Vampire Diaries (both of which are based on books) have become favorites with people craving more stories about bloodsuckers. What is it … Continue reading →

R U OK @ Rting?

Why are we allowing our writing skills to diminish? My boyfriend’s mother recently received a handwritten thank you card in the mail.  With e-mailing, texting, and printing, any handwritten note today is something special.  It shows that someone actually took the time to write, putting a little of oneself into every pen stroke on paper.  Handwritten notes are meaningful and personal, attracting a bit of attention nowadays.  However, what also got the attention of my boyfriend’s mother was in addition … Continue reading →

Gross Anatomy

The House of Why Posted on June 6, 2012 by EileenJune 6, 2012

Why are so many people fascinated by disgusting body secretions? When I was a teenager, puberty was not the most kind to me, forcing me to make zit-squeezing a hobby of mine.  While I didn’t enjoy having breakouts on my face, I got a strange pleasure out of popping pimples, especially if they shot out onto the bathroom mirror (something that irritated my mother to no end).  I’m not going to contest that it was a disgusting enterprise, and to … Continue reading →

An American Jubilee

The House of Why Posted on June 3, 2012 by EileenJune 3, 2012 3

Why do Americans have a love affair with the British Royal Family? In modern times, a large number of Americans seem to love the Royal Family of Britain.  Queen Victoria was the namesake of the Victorian Period that stretched its styles and values across the Atlantic to America.  A twice-divorced American woman, Wallis Simpson, was so enthralled by British royalty that she married King Edward VIII (you know, the one who had to abdicate his throne for marrying a divorcee).  … Continue reading →
